Ambridge

Амбридж
Поселок [borough] на западе штата Пенсильвания, в 24 км к северо-западу от г. Питтсбурга, на р. Огайо [Ohio River] (мост). 7,7 тыс. жителей (2000). Добыча битуминозного угля. Металлообработка, производство товаров из пластмассы, фурнитуры, продуктов питания. В 1825-1906 общество "Гармония" [Harmony Society] создало на месте индейского поселения (в северо-западной части современного поселка) коммуну "Экономи" [Economy]. Сохранились 17 строений коммуны [commune], объединенные в "Старинный поселок Экономи" [Old Economy Village]. Современный поселок основан и получил название от компании "Американ бридж" [American Bridge Co.] в 1901, современный статус с 1905, развивался как центр производства стали.
